Look for cheap flights on Air Africa to Bangui for a vacation with a difference. Bangui is the capital city of the Central African Republic (CAR) and while not usually on vacation wish lists is definitely a place for people looking for genuine experiences. The city was founded by the French in 1880 and filled it with a central market area and wide shady streets. This area is now referred to as the Old Town area. The city is situated on the northern banks of the Ubangi River which means rapids. You will land at the Bangui MPoko International Airport. Bangui as the capital also acts as the administrative center of the country and so is the location where you will find most of the banks, government buildings, embassies and hospitals. As it is not a mainstream travel destination you will not find huge luxury hotels.

Finding accommodation

However, you will find simple and comfortable accommodation such as guesthouses, where you will be able to truly get into the feel of the African culture. Walk around the city to enjoy some of the food unique to the area such as meals prepared with rice, cassava, plantains, pumpkins and squash. The country uses a lot of game and fish in its cooking as well as peanuts. Thanks to Banguis French influence you will find the food reflecting this.

Visit National Parks

There are places of interest to see in and around Bangui such as the Dzanga-Sangha National Park. It is in a remote corner and as a result visitors can see elephants and gorillas and such wildlife in their natural habitat. You can also visit the Baka people found in this area. Always remember to be respectful when visiting indigenous people. Closer to Bangui itself is the Basse Lobaye Forest which offers hours of interesting trekking. You can also indulge in some shopping at the Centre Artisanal the main market in the city. Browse and find some interesting and unique purchases to take back home. However, always be mindful of what you are buying and make sure it is legal to carry back to your own country. See some of the local art at the Perroni Gallery and some of natures own art at the Chutes de Boali waterfall not too far away.
Fly smart! Thanks to Air Africa you can find cost effective flight deals to Bangui and have a taste of true Africa.
