Kisangani is the third largest urbanized city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was formerly known as Stanleyville, after Sir Henry Morton Stanley, while its present name is derived from the seven arched falls south of the city and is said to roughly mean the city on the island. This is mainly because much of the city is built on land located between the stretches of river, that of the Tshopo river and the Congo River. After the port of Kinhasa, Kisangani has the distinction of being a major inland port. The city of Kisangani is the farthest navigable point upstream on the Congo River which has led to its importance and it becoming a main commercial hub and distribution centre. Book your budget ticket to Kisangani with Air Africa and arrive at the Bangoka International Airport which located on the Far East side.
