The coastal city of Bosaso, Somalia, is imbued with a roguish charm all its own, which makes your flights to Bosaso a truly memorable and worthwhile experience! It is the capital of Somalias northeastern Bari region and overlooks the provocative Gulf of Aden. Bosaso is a thriving centre of commerce, as it is a major seaport within the state of Puntland. Around 700,000 people call it home, and it is the 3rd largest city after Mogadishu and Hargeisa. It is a peaceful melting pot of cultures from the major Somalian clans as well as from the Darod sub-clans.

History

The heritage of this mesmerizing city dates back millennia to the time of ancient Greece, as Green merchants frequented the city. As you will discover when you read up during flights to Bosaso, it used to be known as Bandar Qassim, after a trader who settled down here sometime in the 14th century. The current name was later derived from the name of Qassims favorite camel, which was known as Boosaas. As time sped on, the city passed hands from the Majeerteen Sultanate and the Italian Somaliland. After Puntland was formed in the 1990s, Bosaso became the trade capital of the northeastern part of the country.

Climate

When planning your low cost flights to Bosaso, take note of the climate before you travel. By and large, Bosaso endures a hot and dry climate, with temperatures plummeting during the months of November-February. A rise in temperatures occurs in the spring with the start of the rainy season in April. Summer temperatures tend to average around 35 degrees Celsius.

Getting around

Unlike some of its counterparts in southern Somalia, Bosaso is a well-developed city. Travelling round the region is easy, as Bosaso is a major stop on a prominent highway that extends north-south for 750km. It connects with major cities nearby such as Garowe and Galkayo.
